While we look at the rear view mirror, we suddenly, bring our focus back on the way ahead. Even as we concentrate on side view mirror and see someone over-taking and zoom past us, we have to take control and use right combination of brakes, clutch and accelerator. We always have to keep changing our gears in order to maintain the right pace. It’s almost the same situation whether we are on the driving seat of our car or our career. It is quite critical to make the right choices at the right time, in our life. And in order to do so, we must have a clear vision of the way. As the milestones passes by, we must remember to take the right turns in life and reach the goal at the right time.
Which turn to take when – Choice is ours only
Except for the boss, which comes with the job and mother-in-law, who comes with the spouse, life always give us choices at every step and it is us who chooses to go on our selected path. Oh! This means did I choose to get (nice) words from my boss, tons of work pressure and high stress affecting my health, feeling of discontentment and un-fulfilled dreams, not giving quality time to my loved ones for whom I work and so on. Am I a fool who will make such choices? Reality is that we only take, that turn, which gives us a bumpy ride and then we keep expecting it to get over very soon, but it goes on and on. How many times do we ask this question to our bosses or odd time caller or even to ourselves that is this phone call or presentation or assignment, so important that it cannot be postponed till next working day? How many times we make our family wait on the dinner table while we answer the long call to update the entire day’s events. How many of us gather that courage to make this point to others and to ourselves, and because of this, our lives get changed completely.
Knowing the Right Address
We all want to reach our goal(s) as fast as possible. Some of us set our goals too far off and then we feel stressed when we realize the gap in our achievements and goals are tremendous. On the other hand, some of us start moving without even knowing where exactly to reach. We obviously have some idea of where to go but our address is not complete, which makes it difficult for others also to guide us. The more we spend time in reaching our destination, the more we get impatient and start to get panicked. Until, we’ll take pause and recognize the exact coordinates of where we want to reach in life, running here and there will not help.
Follow the Road Map
Once we have realized our goals, we need to discipline ourselves to follow the roadmap and not lose the sight of the same. Highest motivation comes when we realize that we have achieved what we wanted to achieve, in time set by us. Motivation, which comes from money and position, is till we get it and once we get it, it no longer motivates us. Opportunities keep knocking in every phase and facet of an individual’s life, it’s how we view it and make most out of it that matters. I have always experienced that there is no dearth of jobs, but a dearth of right people to accomplish those jobs. It is important for an individual to know what he/she wants to achieve in life; if, that is frozen, then, with a long and short term goal, we happen to make the right choices in life.
Signboards to Show Direction & Distance
Leaders & mentors play a major role in guiding us in the right direction whenever required. It’s confusing to have signboards throughout the way, but they are really helpful whenever there are difficult choices to make. They not only help us to know in which direction to go, but also give us information about how far we are from our nearest goal.
It’s about time for the organizations also to realize, that while we show our people under the expense head in our balance sheets, they are real assets for us and things that we consider as assets, are only expenses.
