People still think of ‘business’ when they hear ‘Brand’; however an individual’s brand is just as important – no matter what stage of life you’re in. Whether you own a company/brand, just graduated from college, or are simply looking for a job, you have to create a Brand that makes sense to you and the people you want to influence.
It’s important to build a Personal Brand because it’s the only thing you’re going to have to showcase to your audience. Your online reputation particularly in the new business world is pretty much the game, so you have to be a ‘good person’ or a ‘trusted name’. You can not hide anything, and more importantly, you have got to be out there visible online at some level.
You have been taught wrong all along that ‘brand’ is an image, or a sign or a name etc.; no, it is not. It is a story of promise and commitment about quality, relevance and value told by its owner to its user. It needs to be continuously told and the value needs to be continuously delivered.
Over a period of time, everything changes around you including yourself. Every four months your red blood cells are entirely replaced, for instance, and your skin cells are replaced every few weeks. Within about seven years every atom in your body will be replaced by other atoms. Physically, you are constantly a new you.
But, each one of us has a biography, a story. Each of us is a singular narrative, which is constructed, continually, unconsciously, by, through, and in us- through our perceptions, our feelings, our thoughts, our actions; and, not least, our discourse, our spoken narrations.
Unless and until you get up, raise our hands and shout out that we have the capability to do certain kind of job, someone else with limited or no knowledge of the job on the offer will get up and claim it, doing complete injustice not only to you but the job also.
Brand association depends on representation and attention, predicted value, experienced value and remembered value.
